Scotland Residential Trip<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outward Bound Loch Eil: <\/strong>71 children and 7 adults have spent this week in the Scottish Highlands experiencing nature at its finest! We have participated in a range of activities including loch dips, beach combing, canoeing, hiking, scrambling, climbing, abseiling, sight seeing at the Glenfinnan Viaduct (aka Harry Potter Bridge), outdoor picnic lunches, playing in the frost and enjoying time with our friends. The children have been exceptional, particularly at showing everyone how well they use their Dulwich Wood Toolkit to overcome the fear of unfamiliar surroundings or challenging tasks!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week we have been learning about seasons, particularly about winter. We have been reading the story \u2018Bear\u2019s Winter House\u2019, about a bear who tries to build a winter house for his long sleep, but has some pesky guests who get in the way of him getting a much-needed rest. We have used our empathy<\/strong> goggles to think about how the other animals should behave in Bear\u2019s house. We have also discussed what some real animals do during this season (e.g. hibernate) and have been looking out for signs of winter in our environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week in science we\u2019ve been using our planning<\/strong> and reasoning <\/strong>tools to sort animals into particular groups based on a set of criteria given. We used our collaboration<\/strong> tool to look at the similarities and differences between the animal groups and then used this knowledge to help us sort the animals. Did you know you can tell an animal’s diet based on their teeth?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week, Year 2 used their whole toolkits<\/strong> during our trip to the Brixton Tate Library. We made links<\/strong> with all of our learning in art and the people running the workshop were so impressed with the children’s knowledge of Frank Bowling and his artistic methods. We loved looking at some of his prints and learning more about the reasons behind them; we then really enjoyed recreating some of them in our sketch book and sharing what we have learned with the class. We are so proud of the way Year 2 represented the school while we were out and we would like to give a big thank you to all of the parent volunteers who made the trip possible! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week we have been having fun developing our coding skills in computing, using our planning<\/strong> tool to design and create a set of movements for a sprite. We have also been making links <\/strong>in maths, learning how to multiply and divide by 3, 4 and 8!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have used our imagining<\/strong> and reasoning <\/strong>tools to come up with exciting and imaginative ways that an electric pencil sharpener might<\/em> work, based on our Literacy book \u2018Before I Met Dudley\u2019. Next, we wrote informal reports including our ideas, using relative clauses, causal conjunctions and adverbials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week Year 5 have been using their asking questions<\/strong> and imagining<\/strong> tools whilst reading Michael Morpurgo\u2019s ‘Kensuke\u2019s Kingdom’. We have been thinking what it might be like to be stranded on a desert island 1000 miles from home and discussing different strategies for survival vs being found! In maths, we have been using our reasoning<\/strong> skills to solve different mathematical mysteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
