Learning Journey: Around the World in Half a Term <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Our Learning this week: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have completed our work around the story of \u2018Ning and the Night Spirits\u2019. We agreed with Ning; people are sometimes afraid of what they don\u2019t understand, so we really applied our Imagining<\/strong> learning tool to create our own ‘Night Spirits’. We then created a fact file about each one of them, drawing wonderful pictures of our ‘Night Spirits’ and then writing a description of their appearance and personality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1 loved learning all about maps during our ‘Maps Day’ on Monday. We talked about what maps are for, when we might use a map and then used our collaboration<\/strong> tool to make a bird’s eye view of our classroom. We thought carefully about where different objects are positioned in the class and used our reasoning<\/strong> tool to explain why we had placed them there, thinking about distance from one object to another.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week, Year 2 really enjoyed using our whole toolkit on Maps Day! We explored different types of maps, made links with our prior knowledge, and asked lots of questions about how to read symbols on an OS map using a key. We then went on a ‘feature hunt’ and used our collaboration<\/strong> tool to help us identify human and physical features around our school. It was so much fun! We also continued our book ‘Ocean meets Sky’. We created some amazing advertisements; where we aimed to convince the reader why they should visit the place where ocean meets sky. We used adjectives, noun phrases and exclamations to promote Giant Shell Island and the Sea of Dancing Moon Jellies!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have had a lot of fun getting involved in Maps Day this week, using our collaboration<\/strong> tool to learn how to use compass points to navigate and our imagining<\/strong> tool to create our own maps about our day and our family. We also made links <\/strong>with our learning in science to help us understand how compasses use magnetism to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have done lots of fantastic geography learning this week, first learning all about four-figure grid references on Monday’s Maps Day, making links<\/strong> to our current topic of settlements. Then on Tuesday, we used maps in the real world to undertake a fieldwork survey of the services in West Dulwich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5 have had a very busy week! They have been using their collaboration<\/strong> and perseverance<\/strong> tools to perform ‘The Present’ to parents, carers and the rest of the school! They also went on a science trip to Dulwich Prep, where they took part in a lesson on reversible and irreversible changes. They worked collaboratively and had fun experimenting with mixing different solids and liquids to observe what changes happened!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have come to the end of our latest text ‘The Promise’. Using our planning<\/strong> tool and taking inspiration from the text, we have begun to write a sequel, based upon the cyclical nature of the text. In Maths, we have been using our perseverance<\/strong> tool, while tackling tricky concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
