Our Learning this week: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong> started the week by reading \u2018The Colour Monster\u2019 which sparked some really good discussions about the feelings we all naturally experience at different times. After this, we spent the rest of the week exploring the \u2018Zones of Regulation\u2019, talking about how to handle some of these emotions in a positive way and which strategies we can use in order to go back to feeling calm and happy, which is when we are definitely ready to learn!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong> have been learning all about Claudia Jones’ life. We have learnt that she moved from Trinidad and Toabago to America and then to England. We used our making links<\/strong> tool to think about how life was different in the 1960s compared to life in England today. We discussed how she helped other people by fighting for equal rights for everyone, creating her own newspaper and organising the first Caribbean Carnival so that people could share and celebrate their cultures with others.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong> were excited to find a mysterious ‘brain bucket’ in our classrooms. We used our asking questions<\/strong> tool to think about what the person might be wondering based on all the thoughts in their busy brain. We made sure that we punctuated questions properly and remembered to use ‘wh’ at the start of lots of question words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong> have really enjoyed learning a new instrument – the ukulele. We have used our perseverance<\/strong> tool to learn what note each string makes and we have even started to learn a song!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong> used their reasoning tool<\/strong> to discuss the results of our week-long science experiment, understanding that it is acid from bacteria that means we must brush our teeth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong> used their making links<\/strong> tool in science to make predictions. They thought about what they had learnt in Y4 about solids, liquids and gases to predict what would happen when they dropped a handful of raisins in lemonade. They noticed the raisins appeared to dance up and down but in water they sunk to the bottom!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong> have been working incredibly hard in all aspects of their learning this week! We have been using our perseverance<\/strong> tool during maths to tackle tricky concepts and make links<\/strong> to previous learning, then applying it to our new learning. In literacy, we became scientists, creating detailed fact files about the Blue Arctic Fox, using our asking questions<\/strong> tool to ensure we have covered all the relevant information.

This year, the church and Dulwich Wood Primary School are supporting the local charity SDCCAS<\/strong> – the Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers https:\/\/sdcas.org.uk\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We invite Dulwich Wood pupils to donate a non-perishable item<\/strong>. Pupils will carry their item to church and place it in front of the altar as part of the service. Your support is much appreciated and will make a tremendous difference to asylum seekers and refugees living in our local area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We look forward to you joining us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
