{"id":4918,"date":"2024-10-04T14:00:48","date_gmt":"2024-10-04T13:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dulwichwood.com\/primary\/?p=4918"},"modified":"2024-10-04T15:11:55","modified_gmt":"2024-10-04T14:11:55","slug":"friday-sep-2024-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dulwichwood.com\/primary\/2024\/10\/04\/friday-sep-2024-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday 4th Oct 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eb0e1cd7d2dbdf069e28502b13bbf2d0\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\"><strong>Learning Journey: Sense of Community <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9e9bae8f564ab2a3e3ed6b4b7d64358c\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\"><strong>NSPCC Kindness Challenge<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-018793e5754802f36a3a5dcdd4aee24a\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\">Participating in the NSPCC Kindness Challenge, this week, reminded each of us at Dulwich Wood Primary School of the power of being caring and collaborative\u2014each act of kindness, over the week, not only uplifted others but also filled our own hearts with joy and purpose.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a7ef4c9d1b67eaa6c4f38ef141b87b61\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\">The pupils really took the time to define what kindness means and how it can have such a positive impact on others, from filling a bucket with kindness to writing kindness songs. As one child wrote, &#8220;Kindness does not need to be perfect, real kindness is showing care for one another.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-56826ecc20031b950a18a95da1be9ea9\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\">It was also wonderful to know that Kindness Challenge donations would help the important and wonderful charity, ChildLine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1899c8fca73f58a9cfe9341a3122a432\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\">Thank you for your donations to ChildLine, both online and in church today for the Harvest Festival. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3a5d327bce26cc4c422c803e25d60337\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\">We were also excited to share that the BBC News visited to capture the special event! Our pupils did an amazing job representing the school and sharing their thoughts on kindness with the cameras rolling&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"240\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 426 \/ 240;\" width=\"426\" controls src=\"https:\/\/www.dulwichwood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/10\/BBC-London-Kindness-Challenge-at-Dulwich-Wood-School-with-Chris-Harper-30.09.24-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:64px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:84px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ee3d29e65477059c9a5d2e1cd8511fcd\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\"><strong>Our Learning this week: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3c46e78c7ab7dbb45affacd378f12b88\" style=\"color:#6fb1e2\"><strong>Reception<\/strong> discovered some mysterious footprints along with a clump of fur and a mysterious sack that along with other items had the book Where the Wild Things Are&#8217;. Our role play area has turned into a magical woodland and the children have been enjoying using their <strong>imagining<\/strong> tool to become wild things in class and having a go at being the King\/Queen of them, like Max!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:40% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dulwichwood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/10\/Y1-CRASH-LAND.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5004 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-29e57fc300b9e2bc0e9b0c667efb8353\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\"><strong>Year 1<\/strong> found out that an alien had crash landed into the playground! Using their <strong>imagining tool<\/strong>, they predicted what had happened, then used the <strong>asking questions<\/strong> tool to investigate the crash site, asking a range of questions beginning with who, what, when, where, why and how? They now know that the friendly alien is named Beegu.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:38px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:41% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dulwichwood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/10\/IMG-20241003-WA0005-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5012 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e85bc4dd80ab50f4eab737b99e3f1803\" style=\"color:#659c38\"><strong>Year 2<\/strong> had a fantastic trip to Crystal Palace Park. We used our<strong> making links<\/strong> tool to see where the real Crystal Palace had stood over 150 years ago. We were also really excited to see the bust of Joseph Paxton as we have been learning about his role in our local area.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:41px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:41% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dulwichwood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/10\/20240927_104842-1024x461.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5011 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c25d6b94135a1b34b5df9f5afe04ddd2\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\"><strong>Year 3<\/strong> had a brilliant time at the Horniman Museum last week learning all about different musical instruments from around the world. We used our <strong>making links<\/strong> tool to identify similarities and differences and enjoyed exploring the wonderful galleries.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e7fa8ab68e396e636c3cb10a14a81539\" style=\"color:#b1d241\"><strong>Year 4<\/strong> have been using their <strong>empathy<\/strong> and <strong>imagining <\/strong>tools to walk in the shoes of Windrush pioneers. We have been imagining their thoughts and feelings, as well as exploring their shared experiences, and used this information to do role-play activities and to write letters home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-40773bcda98d6f0f3848bfda63447268\" style=\"color:#6fb1e2\"><strong>Year 5<\/strong> are reading Nelson Mandela\u2019s autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom. We have been learning about how Nelson Mandela stood up against apartheid and fought for equality in South Africa. This week, we used our<strong> planning<\/strong> and <strong>collaboration<\/strong> tools to learn and perform parts of the Freedom Charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:37px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8bec342e229546b697bb1ea2be2dcf7d\" style=\"color:#008f00\"><strong>Year 6<\/strong> started the week creating kindness poems and songs, which we have carried into our daily lives by being kind to everyone.
