Before School Running Club was so well attended with more than 35 children. Thank you to Mr Greenwood, Mr Barton and Mr Sean along with some parents for supporting the children. The club is now full, but there will be the opportunity to welcome new runners in January. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ee3d29e65477059c9a5d2e1cd8511fcd\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\"><strong>Our Learning this week: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7aa73cf95ff32e4f588601f474db900e\" style=\"color:#6fb1e2\"><strong>Reception: <\/strong>The children are settling in really well in Reception! This week we have started teaching phonics and maths, and we have also been reading stories about birthdays (turning 4 or 5) and starting big school, discussing all the feelings children might be having about this very special time in their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-94db423c734958a3161d855bd101aad0\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\"><strong>Year 1:<\/strong> This week we have enjoyed delving deeper into our story \u2018Flooded\u2019. We have been using our <strong>imagining tool<\/strong> to help us think about how the characters were feeling in the story. We decided to create protest signs to help bring about change and find a solution to their problem using contractions such as don\u2019t, can\u2019t and let\u2019s.&nbsp; Great work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:38px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c92accb40bd635a4fcc674d65eed305b\" style=\"color:#659c38\"><strong>Year 2: <\/strong>This week the children used their <strong>empathy goggles<\/strong> to help us understand how the animals feel about the flood. We used contractions to make protest banners and marched around the school to raise awareness!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:41px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-86fda6b177240a34e95d1b1d16cf9dc5\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\"><strong>Year 3<\/strong>: We have been making great use of our<strong> empathy<\/strong> and<strong> imagining <\/strong>tools this week, writing in the role of the Emperor Tamarin from our book &#8216;Flooded&#8217;. We have been using all four sentence types to write persuasively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-daf18c0c222ca0e3cebef36b2257fb15\" style=\"color:#b1d241\"><strong>Year 4: <\/strong>We have used our <strong>imagining<\/strong> tools to use water related idioms to write speeches in role as a character from our story flooded. We had to think outside the box for this activity, as the idioms we were using all had metaphorical meanings which were quite tricky to use. We also used our <strong>collaboration<\/strong> tools to support each other in delivering our speeches to the class.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-03a0281897055a81419f18033e887834\" style=\"color:#6fb1e2\"><strong>Year 5: <\/strong>We have used our <strong>asking questions<\/strong> and <strong>planning<\/strong> tools to investigate what factors affect how quickly a solid dissolves in water. &nbsp;We used our <strong>collaboration<\/strong> tool to work together in small groups to carry out the experiment and we found that the sugar dissolved fastest when it was in granulated form, in hot water and being continuously stirred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:37px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-15f5eafcd8bb188789b299c49bd57e3b\" style=\"color:#008f00\"><strong>Year 6: <\/strong> We have enjoyed reading our new text &#8216;Leila and the Blue Fox&#8217; so far. On Monday we discovered a backpack left in our classroom! Using our <strong>asking questions<\/strong> and <strong>making links<\/strong> tools we explored who it could belong to. After we made our predictions, we met our first character &#8211; Miso the fox &#8211; a beautiful arctic fox on an incredible journey, we then created poems using a variety of figurative language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:51px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ce01d09857e31875fbca67a214891d99\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\"><strong>Coming Up <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:54px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Next week, (<strong>23-27 September<\/strong>) is <strong>Cycle to School Week<\/strong>. This year, the church and Dulwich Wood Primary School are supporting the local <strong>charity SDCCAS<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; the Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers <a href=\"https:\/\/sdcas.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/sdcas.org.uk\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We invite Dulwich Wood pupils to donate a <strong>non-perishable item<\/strong>. Pupils will carry their item to church and place it in front of the altar as part of the service. Your support is much appreciated and will make a tremendous&nbsp;difference to asylum seekers and refugees living in our local area. We look forward to you joining us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SDCCAS Centre provides safe spaces for clients to access free, holistic services.
