Our Learning Journey – Welcome to Our World<\/span><\/h2>\n

Our learning this week…<\/span><\/h3>\n

Reception<\/span><\/strong> – We had a very special start to the week as Miss Rowe, Emu and Fifi came to sort the children into their houses which was really exciting! In literacy, we have been reading the story \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcI am Henry Finch<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. The children have enjoyed exploring what it means to listen to our thoughts and how we can help our \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcflock\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 overcome difficult times. In maths we have continued to explore number with a focus on counting accurately and comparing two sets of objects to find out whether they have more, fewer or the same (equal) number of objects.<\/p>\n

Year 1<\/strong> <\/span>– We have been resourcing and planning our designs for free-standing models of London landmarks. In literacy we have continued our book \u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcStanley’s Stick<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and retold the story in our own words as well as self-editing. In maths we have been focusing again on place value and in particular empty box problems.<\/p>\n

Year 2<\/strong><\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c What fantastic poets we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been this week! We started by learning some techniques for reciting and performing poetry, which we then applied when recording our poem, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcThe Owl and the Pussycat<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. Take a look on Tapestry if you would like to see it! Also, to help both characters, in science, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been looking at, and exploring the properties of materials, so that we can find a suitable one for their boat. In geography, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve started planning our journey by looking into the different countries that form the UK as well as their respective flags, and also getting our passports ready to go. Maths this week has been about exploring 2D shapes and their properties, which we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been doing really well.<\/p>\n

Year 3<\/strong><\/span> – In science we have been learning about nutrition. We examined food packaging with a food label decoder and looked at how much sugar, fat and salt different foods contained. We were all shocked when we compared the different cereals and keen to take home our label decoders! We are coming to the end of the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcTin Forest<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and the children have produced some beautiful, descriptive writing describing the forest. We are very much looking forward to our visit to the woods next Wednesday!<\/p>\n

Year 4\/5<\/strong> <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u201c we have been learning about an ancient Mexican civilisation, the Mayans.\u00c2\u00a0 We have been exploring what deities they worshipped and what they symbolised.\u00c2\u00a0 We have also created some of our own deities and explained why they may have been worshipped.\u00c2\u00a0 In science we have been creating our own classification keys using what we know about the different types of vertebrates, invertebrates and plants.<\/p>\n

Year 6<\/strong> <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u201c We have continued reading our class text ‘King Kong<\/a>‘. We explored the impact of the author’s use of language and used musical instruments to create our own sound scape to create atmosphere as we read the text. In geography we have been honing in on Morocco exploring the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s physical and human features, and in art we made Moroccan plates!<\/p>\n
